In 1997 and 1999, Peter Brueggeman assisted with a National Science Foundation sponsored underwater photography expedition led by Norbert Wu, a professional underwater photographer/cinematographer. The team was based at McMurdo Station on Ross Island in the Ross Sea and Peter did forty-nine scuba dives at various locations around McMurdo Sound. This photo shows Peter scuba diving at Cape Armitage under the ice.

Peter is the Library Director at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego and authored the Diving Under Antarctic Ice web site associated with this expedition.
