For three seasons, the National Science Foundation sponsored an underwater photography team led by Norbert Wu, a professional underwater photographer/cinematographer, to dive around McMurdo Sound in Antarctica. Photos were taken on numerous scuba dives and field excursions. Team members Peter Brueggeman and Dr M. Dale Stokes emailed home regular reports of their Antarctic scuba diving experiences.

The National Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs sponsored Norbert Wu on an Artist's and Writer's Grant ; these Antarctic Journals is a direct result of that sponsorship and Norbert Wu's efforts.
